Following are the detailed course offerings for Summer Virtual Theater Courses with Susie Speidel.

Imagination Players (ages 10 to 12)

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Jump into immersive creative drama activities and improvisations while taking part in the creation of a virtual production. Each session will begin with creative drama exercises to build self-confidence, develop communication skills, and inspire imaginations. Participants will also have the opportunity to take on multiple roles in a play, and to enhance their characters by collaborating on their own costumes and props. The class will culminate with a final performance in a live Zoom session to share and celebrate their accomplishments.

Monologue Mania (ages 10 to 14)

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This four-week session will guide young actors as they explore text analysis and prepare compelling monologues for auditions and other settings. By the end of the course, each student will have worked on at least two speeches, through group work and additional one-on-one online coaching sessions. The class will culminate with a final performance in a live Zoom session to share and celebrate the accomplishments of the participants.

Monologue Intensive (age 15 to 20)

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This four-week rigorous session is designed for serious actors of all ages with the goal of exploring text analysis and expanding each participant’s individual repertory of audition pieces. By working on contrasting speeches (comedy/drama or classical/contemporary), they will also expand their individual acting technique and gain ease and fluidity in an audition setting. By the end of the course, each student will have at least two speeches memorized and prepared through group work and additional one-on-one coaching sessions online. The class will culminate with a final performance in a live Zoom session to share and celebrate the accomplishments of the participants.

SESSION FEE:

Virtual Open Mic Night (all ages)

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Want to share your talents or try out something new learned during quarantine? Just sign up, login, and go! Participants can perform stand-up, songs, monologues, stories, instrumental solos, etc. Registrants will be contacted in advance of the session with guidelines and a timeslot for their performance. The goal is to create a comfortable and supportive place to share your gifts in a creative, healthy, and non-competitive online environment.

Behind the Scenes

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Join us for a series of online conversations exploring various aspects of theatre. Topics may include unknown facts of theatre history, a backstage peak at technical and production elements, a deep dive into the work of a specific theatre artist, or a lively discussion of the origin of theatre superstitions. We’ll take suggestions to tailor the conversation to the interests of the group, and you never know who might join in from Chatham’s roster of performers, directors and designers!

Shakespeare Online Discussion Group

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Summer and Shakespeare seem to go hand in hand, but sadly it isn’t possible to attend a performance this summer. So, why not sit back with a snack or beverage of your choice as this discussion group convenes, Via Zoom, on four Thursdays during the summer. Each session will be devoted to one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces. (Schedule below.) Scripts will be accessible online and resources for further study will also be shared at each session. Great for high school or college students - as well as anyone interested in learning more about the Bard!

Musical Theatre Online Discussion Group

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
Missing the sound of dancing feet? This discussion group will explore watershed moments that changed the face of musical theatre. Each session will examine the shows and artists that shaped our indigenous American theatrical art form, with insights, trivia, and stories about how they were created. (Schedule below.) Resources for further study will also be shared at each session. Great for anyone who loves show tunes and stories of the Great White Way!
